 Major Contracts - Achievements

  • BC Medical Association (1995 - 2006)
    - In 2005, assisted with both training and deployment of new hardware and software to all staff.
    -
    Ongoing consulting, software training, software/hardware support.
    - Y2K project - worked together with Sierra Systems to establish organizational policies, and standard software image. Conducted training and assisted with the deployment of hardware and software.
     
  • IA Pacific Life (formerly Northwest Life Assurance) (1999 - 2006)
    - Currently developing more 1/2 day in-house courses for Word 97, Excel 97, PowerPoint 97 and Outlook 98. 
    - In 2001, developed various levels of ½ day in-house courses for the various applications included in Office 97. I also developed all the training manuals and presented each of the courses.
    - Y2K project – development of training curriculum, recommendations for standard software image, conducted train the trainer course, production of software reference manual, presentation training sessions for over 200 employees, provided on-site support.
     
  • Davis & Company (2004 - 2006)
    - Ongoing new-hire training focusing on the Davis customization of MS Word.
    - Collaborated with other consultants to develop and deliver courses for secretaries and lawyers covering the conversion from WordPerfect to MS Word 2003.
    - Assisted with quality assurance testing of Davis' Word customization.
     
  • Sandwell Engineering  (2000 - 2006)
    - Ongoing review of corporate templates to optimize their efficient use.
    - On-going development and presentation of 1 hour "Lunch and Learn" sessions covering Office 2000 and Office 2003.
     
  • Edwards Kenny and Bray (2001 - 2004)
    - In 2003, together with a colleague, developed and presented 4-day training sessions for all assistants, covering conversion from WordPerfect to Word 2000, Word 2000 customization, Windows XP and upgraded features of Amicus Attorney.
    - Developed and presented 1/2, 1 and 2-day training sessions for all lawyers covering similar information.
    - On-going 3-day new hire assistant training.
    - One-on-One assistant training as required.
     
  • Ratcliffe and Company (2003)
    Was sub-contracted by Tech Niche to:
    - Deliver training materials covering Ratcliffe's conversion from WordPerfect to Word 2000 including the customization developed by Tech Niche.
    - Delivered desktop support once training was completed.
     
  • PBSC Computer Training Centres (1992 - 2003)
    - Ongoing contracts for instructing various software courses.
    - Was asked to take over the project management of Telus’ software training while they upgraded all  their BC employees to Office 2000.
    - Development of customized handouts for various corporate clients.
     
  • Providence Health Care - Vancouver (1999)
    - Y2K project – development of training curriculum. With a team of 5 other contractors, conducted training and support at 5 of their hospital locations, covering over 800 employees. Together with Sierra Systems assisted with transfer of data files to the new PCs.
     
  • RBC Dominion Securities (1992)
    - Obtained contracts from various BC and Alberta branches. Provided training to support staff and investment advisors. Recommended a variety of automation techniques including the development of specialized templates.

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyzed training needs and submitted recommendations for developing training programs.
  • Developed training materials for instructor and student use.
  • Tested and validated new computer systems and their impact on the users, prior to implementation.
  • Created user guide documentation for new and existing computer systems.
  • Delivered various courses for employees.
  • Conducted training sessions for new Investment Advisors during their formal 8 week training period and provided follow-up support after training was completed.

Achievements

  • During this time designed training materials and coordinated and participated in the successful training of 1000 staff members across Canada, on various systems on the company’s in-house computer.
  • At the request of the Retail Training Manager, designed and successfully implemented two permanent programs, which were added to the formal training curriculum for Investment Advisors.
  • At the request of the Manager of the Personal Investments Division, assisted new Toronto retail employees (acquired in a recent merger) in a two week orientation of the firms retail office procedures and in-house computer systems.
  • The training department was dissolved and I was invited to assist in the development of a Human Resources Department.  A vice-president of Human Resources was hired February 1989 and was assigned the responsibility to assist in the development of a centralized recruiting function, which was completed just prior to the company's take-over in May 1989.

  PEMBERTON SECURITIES INC. - May 1974 to May 1987
                   
(ACQUIRED BY RBC DOMINION SECURITIES IN MAY 1989)

ADMIN SUPERVISOR/PART TIME INVESTMENT ADVISOR

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervised the Branch Support staff.
  • Reconciled clients' account problems.
  • Calculated estate portfolio values and executed their security liquidations.
  • Trained and provided user support for new Investment Advisors and Assistants using the in-house computer system.
  • Announced a local radio stock market report, 3 times daily.

 Achievements

  • On my own time, personally acquired 20 accounts and then managed their portfolios.

Moved to Vancouver: Head Office was in the process of creating a new retail training department and I was invited to assist in it’s development.

  Community Service Activities

  • Variety - The Children's Charity of BC – Chair of the Annual Auction (1995 - 1999), plus the design and implementation of a receipting program for that function, analysis of ¼ hour pledge statistics during Annual Show of Hearts Telethon (since 96), volunteer at other fund raising events (you should see me in my elf costume at the Children’s Christmas Party!), training staff on their application software. Previously on the Executive and Board of Directors.
  • Jewish Community Centre (1997 - 2001) Co-Chair of the auction portion of the Annual Sports Legacy Dinner in Vancouver.
  • Secretary/Treasurer of Strata Council (1995 to present)
